About Us

An advocate for organic and sustainable agriculture and aquaculture and generally farming in Ghana. We are committed to promoting these ideals through both social media/online and developing our own farms. We also actively promote on our platform, others who have excelled at providing quality organic products and support services.

It started out with watering a lawn on a warm summer evening.

As I looked at the amount of water that was being “wasted” I was listening to a local radio station, talking about the ongoing debate on GMO, how difficult people were finding it to get organic food all the time and the fact that pesticide use was on the increase and had affected both plants and animals, and by extension, us.

At that point, I remembered a piece of scripture from my childhood:

“And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine”. (Ezekiel 47:12)

As a child, I used this as an excuse to avoid going to the hospital when I was not feeling well, but would research on food and nutrition to:

1. get medicine for what I found out was wrong with me and

2. make sure I don’t fall sick again!

As a family, we have done our best to increasingly avoid processed foods in our meals and even the children love to research and find out what is healthy and what isn’t.

On several visits to villages and so-called “deprived areas”, I have come across older men and women who have still strength in their limbs, go to their farms regularly without help, have good eyesights and are much stronger than their counterparts in the cities. Invariably, it has all been linked to their local foods.

We’ve seen worsening health as people and societies become more affluent. A new term has been coined: “lifestyle diseases” and that shows us the correlation between our unhealthy eating habits, nutritionally deficient foods and certain diseases that could largely have been avoided. There is much chatter about the global heart disease epidemic, the obesity epidemic, the diabetes epidemic and so on. Largely, these are linked to a sedentary lifestyle and poor quality food.

As I thought on these things, I decided that it would be a great idea to look for what I found interesting and helpful in nature and share it with others.

Secondly, I would set out to grow organic fruits and vegetables with integrity and a care for the earth as my watchwords.

Thirdly, I will search out people who are also growing and processing natural and organic food and food products and promote them and their works in one place, where potential buyers or searchers, can get access to their information and products.

Thus, FarmerJohn Organics was born.

FarmerJohn Organics is dedicated to furthering local and, by extension, global sustainability through organic, non-GMO, sustainable agriculture and aquaculture.

We have interest in the following:

  • Natural Sea Salt
  • Spices and Seasonings
  • Organic vegetables and fruits
  • Free-range, pastured livestock (cattle, goats, pigs) and sustainable aquaculture (shrimps or prawns, fish, etc).
  • Organic condiments

We are also looking into developments in aquaponics and our progress on that front will feature prominently here as well.

We have invested in a natural sea salt company (Crown Sea Salt Ltd – more information about that here) and are currently finalising plans to start our organic vegetable farm, using green houses or “tunnels” for tomatoes, paprika (sweet pepper) and cucumbers.

In addition, we are constantly sourcing for healthy food producers and promote their work here on this site.

CSA – Community Supported Agriculture

By developing our own farm and greenhouses, we are actively promoting a CSA program, under which interested individuals and households could register (subscribe) and receive periodically (weekly or monthly), the freshest, organic seasonal vegetables, spices, meat and seafood we can supply, delivered right at your doorsteps.

Subscribers to our CSA will also be able to see where exactly their food is coming from and how it is processed an packaged.

It doesn’t get any better than this!

We are currently working on the first site for our greenhouses  and we will post updates and pictures as we progress.

Our Promise

We are devoted to providing the best-tasting, freshest organic food (fruits, vegetables, fish and meat), through authentic farming that respects our soil, our culture and traditions, our water and our planet, but still using cutting edge, non-intrusive technology and unadulterated condiments, seasonings and spices through ensuring the processing, either by packaging ourselves or monitoring the people who do these.

Thus, everything you buy through us, will have our promise of quality attached.

In partnership with other, like-minded individuals and organisations, we strive to minimize our carbon footprint and keep soils healthy for future generations.

By promoting organic and sustainable agriculture and produce, we seek to be a part of a shift to encouraging people to improve their health and lifestyles by eating local and organic and have an impact on the local economy.

Our organic farms and natural sea salt works, our collaborators and our customers are a community we are developing and expect to grow.

We will scour both online and around us, for people of like minds, who also produce and promote natural, organic, GMO-free food and food products, as well as present what we find out regarding natural, healthier alternatives products for our everyday lives.

With what we come across, we will give you a means of either accessing these items yourselves, or help you get them.

Our Principle

Our guiding principle is integrity. Both in our products, services and our business practices. We are committed to improving the quality of life in our community.

1. We are convinced that healthy food is grown, not processed.

2. As Hippocrates (the father of modern medicine) said, “let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”. We believe the way to good health, does not lie in modern medicine as we know it, but starts out with the food we eat.
Whatever we provide here, is something that we, as a family, have used and have found beneficial or are planning on using.

As we choose affiliate programmes to promote, we will ONLY provide links to what we believe will be beneficial to our readers and their families. Our focus is the product(s), not the payment.

Come along with us on this fruitful and exciting journey of discovery to health and healthy living.  We do assure you, that we will provide the best information we come across, that should enhance your quality of life.

Here we go…..
